Clean Spills Right Away

Liquids are dangerous for wood flooring. Any spills that happen can cause serious and expensive damage to the flooring. The wood flooring will absorb the liquid and can cause warping, cracking or other damage. This also means on rainy days, take the shoes off at the door to keep moisture to a minimum.

Sweep and Dust on a Regular Basis

Although it may seem a little excessive to clean the floor so often. Even if you live in a home that requires the removal of footwear, dust can still collect. Dust can settle down into the grain and in between the planks. This also counts when you have pets that shed or go in and out of the house.

Use Furniture Padding

Furniture can cause wear and tear on your hardwood flooring. Having protection on the feet of your furniture will help to keep down the scratches. Rugs, footpads and even cardboard will work to give added protection. If your furniture has metal feet, this is even more important to protect your flooring from scratches.

Avoid Polishes and Waxes

Using polish or wax to touch up your floors might seem like a good idea. It is not. They can build up and actually make it more difficult when it comes time for professional buffing or sealing.
